Canada’s Walk of Fame Celebrated The Oldest Living Inductee, Brenda Milner, PhD, at The Neuro in Montreal during a Special “Hometown Stars” Event on her 106th Birthday!
The celebration featured special guests, musical performances, a commemorative plaque unveiling, and more!
On Monday, July 15, Canada’s Walk of Fame’s oldest living Inductee, Brenda Milner, PhD, was honoured on her 106th birthday during a special Canada’s Walk of Fame Hometown Stars event at Montreal’s The Neuro.
The pioneering scientist and neuropsychologist joined the ranks of Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2023, honoured for her revolutionary research of the human brain and cognitive memory formation. World-renowned for her breakthrough research spanning more than seven decades into the human brain, Milner was best known for her work on memory formation and the function of the brain. Professor Emerita at McGill University, she revolutionized the field of neuropsychology, combining neurology and psychology, and was considered one of the most important neuroscientists of the twentieth century. Presented by Scotiabank in partnership with Cineplex, and with support from Air Canada in bringing our Inductees home, the momentous event saw Milner’s friends, colleagues, and students, along with special guests, gather to celebrate the centenarian and unveil a commemorative plaque honouring Milner’s 2023 induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
The Hometown Stars initiative launched in 2017, providing all future Inductees with an additional opportunity to celebrate their induction in their hometown with a celebration featuring special guests, musical performances, and a commemorative plaque unveiling mounted at a unique location of their or their families’ choice. Milner’s commemorative plaque will be mounted at The Healing Garden, Department of Neuro, McGill University.
As part of their induction to Canada’s Walk of Fame, each Inductee received a $10,000 donation to the charity or cause of their choice. Milner selected The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), where she spent her career, as the beneficiary. The Neuro is the largest specialized neuroscience research and clinical facility in Canada, and one of the largest in the world.
