Lee Aaron is one of Canada’s most iconic vocalists, songwriters, producers, and fearless re-inventors. With an impressive 40+ year career spanning 18 albums and multiple hit singles, she has undertaken successful forays into the world of rock, pop, jazz and even opera.
A pioneer of female-fronted rock in Canada, Aaron released her debut album, The Lee Aaron Project (1982) at the age of nineteen. Her sophomore release, 1984’s Metal Queen established Aaron as a trailblazer for women in the genre, elevating her to icon status with legions of rock fans all over the world. The title track has endured to become a genderless anthem of empowerment for all fans.
Aaron went on to make albums with world-renowned producers Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd) and Peter Coleman (Blondie, Pat Benatar). During the 80’s she topped dozens of European music polls and appeared on the covers of magazines like Sounds, Melody Maker and even TV Guide. She toured non-stop throughout Europe, the UK, Japan and Canada sharing stages with Heart, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Sinead O’Connor, Motley Crue, Van Morrison and many more.
1989’s BodyRock and 1991’s Some Girls Do achieved multi-platinum status and included charting singles like “Whatcha Do to My Body”, “Hands On” and “Some Girls Do”.
Chart Magazine proclaimed Aaron’s BodyRock album (1989) one of the 20 most influential Canadian albums of the ’80s, with Alanis Morrisette and Shania Twain both “under Aaron’s influence.” Much Music consistently listed Aaron among the “Top Female Rockers of All Time.”
Accolades include 10 Juno nominations, an Arts Walk of Fame Award (Brampton,) a CMPA Songwriters Award, Much Music Video Awards, a Music Express Award, and three Toronto Music Awards.
In addition to rock, Aaron released two jazz albums, Slick Chick (2000), and Beautiful Things (2004). “ (she) has pulled off one of the biggest musical transformations… while it may be hard for some to believe that Aaron could tread so confidently in so many jazzy subgenres, the fact is, she did!” The Globe and Mail
Aaron has also performed opera in the ALCAN Performing Arts Award-winning production of “120 Songs for The Marquis De Sade” produced by Modern Baroque Opera Company.
In her spare time, Aaron gives her energy to several causes including, Diabetes Now Canada, F-Cancer Benefits for BC Cancer Foundation, and Guitars for Vets Canada. She has partnered with Writers and Rockers Coffee Company to create The Lee Aaron BodyRock blend, 100% of proceeds going to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation Winnipeg.
