On Friday, March 23, 2018, Canada’s Walk of Fame celebrated 2017 Inductee David Suzuki with a special Hometown Stars event in Vancouver, marking the organization’s first celebration outside Ontario in its 20-year history. The commemorative plaque was unveiled at the CBC Vancouver broadcast centre, a site closely connected to Suzuki’s influential career as a scientific pioneer, educator, and environmental advocate.

Speakers Included:

  • Jim Cuddy, musician (Blue Rodeo)
  • Johnny Michel, Managing Director, CBC Alberta & British Columbia
  • Steve Cornish, CEO, David Suzuki Foundation

Performances Included:

  • Whitehorse, 2018 Juno nominees, performing their song Emerald Isle

As part of the event, Canada’s Walk of Fame made a $10,000 donation to the David Suzuki Foundation in honour of Suzuki’s lifelong commitment to environmental causes. The celebration also marked Suzuki’s 82nd birthday.

Local partners included Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver, CBC Vancouver, and the David Suzuki Foundation.
