Final call for 2014 RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize: Opportunity to be mentored by Canadian music icons, private studio time, career development workshop and $100,000 in total prize value to be shared among winners!

(Toronto, ON) April 15, 2014 – Following the success of last year’s inaugural program, Canada’s Walk of Fame and National Premier Partner RBC announced the return of the RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize that aims to foster and support the next generation of gifted Canadian superstars. As part of the Canada’s Walk of Fame Emerging Artists Programs, this year’s Prize will once again focus on music and offer more than $100,000 in total prize value, including the unique opportunity for aspiring artists to be mentored by musical legends Gord Sinclair of The Tragically Hip, and Triumph’s Rik Emmett and Gil Moore. The RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize is supported by the RBC Foundation.
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11:59 PM ET. Details on eligibility.
Submissions are open to students enrolled in an accredited Canadian school or institution at the time of entry; however, the program has been extended to applicants who are not currently enrolled in school and are between the ages of 18 to 35, who must submit a resume that illustrates their continuing commitment to developing a music career. The resume should include such details as: professional training (courses/private lessons), musical appearances, membership in professional associations or musical groups, awards, bursaries or grants.
Chosen by a selection committee and to be announced in late spring 2014, the Grand Prize winner of the RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize will receive:
- A cash prize of $25,000
- Opportunities to participate at Canada’s Walk of Fame events, perform at major venues and open for headlining acts
- Twenty (20) hours of private studio time at the renowned Metalworks Studio with an appointed producer, periodically mentored by Rik Emmett and Gil Moore from Triumph
- Ten (10) hours of studio time in The Tragically Hip’s private studio, mentored by Gord Sinclair
Introductions to agents, managers and music executives - New: Album cover artwork design by Eric McBain Creative
- New: Music Industry Career Development Mentorship Session
Six additional winners of the RBC Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Prize will receive:
- A cash prize of $5,000 for the Secondary Winner
- A cash prize of $1,000 each for Five Finalists
- Performance opportunities at Canada’s Walk of Fame events
- New this year, all winners will also be invited to participate in a private Music Industry Career Development Mentorship Session with Q&A. The approximate value of the prize in total is $100,000.00 CDN.
To qualify:
Candidates must submit a maximum 60-second video or audio file, of a musical or vocal performance via the entry form on canadaswalkoffame.com in one of the following formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP, WebM.
Anyone under the age of 18 must have consent by a parent or legal guardian in order to participate, should they be selected.
