Canada’s Walk Of Fame Honours Multi-Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter, Activist, And Humanitarian Bruce Cockburn With A Hometown Star In Ottawa

The public celebration takes place at the National Arts Centre, featuring dignitaries, special guests, musical performances and a commemorative plaque unveiling.

2021 Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductee Bruce Cockburn has enjoyed an illustrious career shaped by politics, spirituality, and musical diversity. For his many achievements spanning five decades, 350 songs, and 13 Juno Awards, the Ottawa-born singer-songwriter is an Officer of the Order of Canada and is deeply respected for his activism on native rights and land mines to the environment and Third World debt, working for Oxfam, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, and Friends of the Earth.

On Monday, April 25, Bruce returns home to Ottawa for a special Hometown Star, presented by Cineplex, in honour of his recent induction to Canada’s Walk of Fame. The Hometown Stars initiative launched in 2017, providing all Inductees going forward with an additional opportunity to celebrate their induction in their hometown with a free public celebration featuring a commemorative plaque unveiling (to be mounted at a unique location of their, or their families’, choice), special guests, and musical performances.

Canada’s Walk of Fame Hometown Stars, presented by Cineplex, is an initiative that launched in 2017, providing all Inductees going forward with an additional opportunity to celebrate their induction in their hometown with a plaque mounted at a unique location of their, or their families’, choice. This program is designed by Canada’s Walk of Fame to deepen its commitment, broaden its impact and build a more meaningful national platform. *As part of their induction to Canada’s Walk of Fame, each Inductee receives a $10,000 donation to the charity or cause of their choice. Bruce Cockburn selected The Unison Fund and SeedChange as the beneficiaries, each receiving $5000 of this donation.
