In our big and beautiful country, sometimes it’s tough to feel connected. When you’re standing in Toronto looking up at the CN tower, it seems challenging to relate to someone gazing up at the Northern Lights in the Yukon.
But it’s definitely possible!
We are taking steps to bridge that gap and to broaden our reach outside of Toronto. We have always installed a commemorative sidewalk star on King Street West for our Inductees – but we are recognizing that since our incredible and inspiring Canada’s Walk of Fame Inductees come from all over Canada, there is a huge opportunity to begin celebrating achievement and sharing their inspiring stories from coast to coast to coast.
At the beginning of 2018, we launched Hometown Stars, Presented by Cineplex, which provides our Inductees from outside of Toronto with an additional chance to celebrate their induction in their hometown. A special Canada’s Walk of Fame star plaque is designed, produced and mounted at a special location of their, or their families’ choice.
This makes it easier for the family, friends and mentors who have helped the Inductee along their road to achievement experience this esteemed honour with them. This initiative also applies to posthumous Inductions – it is a joy to reveal a plaque in the town where their journeys began and add something to their lasting legacies.
To date, our team has travelled to Vancouver to celebrate with David Suzuki at the CBC, to Halifax to celebrate Viola Desmond with her sister Wanda Robson at the Ferry Terminal, and to Skinners Pond, PEI to honour Stompin’ Tom Connors with his family at the Stompin’ Tom Festival. We started with our 2017 Inductees and will be carrying this initiative forward with all future Inductees.
Keep your eyes peeled for the incredible locations across Canada where our team will celebrate the achievements of great Canadians next!
