Standing in the present, looking forward from the past
Choosing words with purpose to capture what we have
A home so vast – yet small enough to hold me as I am
Pushing possibility, so I can understand

An open heart, a helping hand
Not afraid to take a stand
For what is right, for what can be
A sense of hope that lives with me
That’s where I am.  That’s what it means
    To be Canadian

There’s room for big ideas that could change all that we knew
There’s room for diversity, for opposing points of view.

A belief true richness comes from expanding hearts and minds
It builds the strong foundation and stand the test of time.

An open heart, a helping hand
Not afraid to take a stand
For what is right, for what can be
A sense of hope that lives with me
That’s where I am.  That’s what it means
    to be Canadian

Some say, home is where the heart is.  My home is so much more.
It’s a place of strength, of peace, of hope with compassion at its core.
The smile and the friendliness have become the trademark sign,
of a strong, resilient people.  Thank God this home is mine.

We know we have been given much.  We’re luckier than most.
And so we reach beyond ourselves to share this sense of hope.

    ENTRY

I heard people sing our anthem today.
I fought back the tears then wiped them away.

Our flag is strong, it endures the wind
Our people are inclusive and have always been

We open our hearts so people can live.
Yes, we are Canada, the people who give.

Our troupes are lent to the world with honor
We share our hearts our lives and our valor

Our lands are vast, yet we never stand alone
Unity is a gift that each of us own

We stand in wonder, facing our dreams.
These are the words of what Canada means

I heard people sing our anthem today.
I fought back the tears then wiped them away.

Canadian I am through and through,
But I am just one of many diverse people who stand true
With pride for what this country stands for,
So let me welcome you to our door.

For Canadians outpour hospitality to all
As if you’re family; for every neighbour is our friend
And were always ready to lend a hand.
    After all, we’re Canadian!

We’ve come from far and wide To build our dreams,
Weathering any storms With a quiet strength it seems,
When the elements of this land test our day
We have the tenacity to pick up and go on our way.

Never minding fine print to seal a deal,
    A handshake and a nod,
    Our word makes it real.
For we’d rather spend time at play,
    Raising a glass to cheer,
    Singing and dancing in celebration
For a good crop, goal or perhaps the next beer.
    After all we are Canadian!

Ever proud of our soldiers and veterans
Who give us the peace to be free.
Our land with all its wealth and richness
Pales beside the hearts of gold
    Found in everyday Canadians;
    So many stories never told.
    After all we are Canadians,

We find it hard to boast—
Poor etiquette it was taught to us:
Focus on what means the most!
    Never take ourselves too seriously.
    In sport of any kind
    Find a healthy, honest, balance
    Between heart and mind,

    Remembering always
The grade we’re famous for: Canadian Eh!
Yes ‘A’. How could we want anything more?

Canada – our nation from sea to sea,
    brimming with hope and vitality.

Whether our home by choice, or our home by birth,
we’re lucky to live in this country, the greatest on Earth.

A country home to heroes, whose determination serves to inspire,
and home-grown talent, showcased worldwide, for all to admire.

A country whose research and innovation has bettered our Earth,
so that future generations may realize its worth.

A country known to welcome all with open arms,
where respect and kindness are just some of our charms.

A country of shared experiences and cultural collaboration,
where celebration of diversity is fundamental to our nation.

A country where a walk around the block can sub for a trip around the world,
Experiences of fun and fellowship, the result of cultures swirled.

A country where we learn from each other, in order to know,
and we share with each other, in order to grow.

A model for equality, a model for peace,
and a model for freedom, last but not least.

So, here’s to Canada! We’re so blessed to call her our own.
She is our heart. She is our home.

Sometimes when I write a song
The words are out of sight
But when I think of Canada
There’s so many things to write

This is Canada, the place that we call home
This is Canada, the place that we belong

    Nous parlons français et anglais
    Deux Solitudes fervantes

    Et malgré toutes nos différences
    Nous sommes encore ensembles

    Every new Canadian
    Adds to you and me
We all have a part to play
    To keep this country free

This is Canada, the place that we call home
This is Canada, the place that we belong

    The soldiers are brave
    Unique in every way
They come to save the world
    They’re big and strong
    They fight all wrongs
    To keep the people safe

This is Canada, the place that we call home
This is Canada, the place that we belong
This is Canada, the place that we… belong…

You could take us through the deserts and dry lands,
    Through canyons, and tribal lands
But that isn’t where we wanna be

We’re talking ‘bout mountains and highlands,
    About wetlands and islands
But really it’s the love that sets us free

You could offer us all the world’s money
    Some power, some glory
But that’s not what we’re all about

We’re looking for just one opportunity
To spread joy to our family
And have the courage to never go without

If there’s one thing stirring up in this nation
It’s passion for freedom, and celebration
Of the life that we share, and the history we make
So come on! Be a part of it, for the whole world’s sake

If all it takes is one voice to speak to poverty
    And another to equality,
And then one more to sign off against the war
Just imagine thirty million in perfect harmony
Backed by a choir of all humanity
We’d never again be able to close that door

We’re just one chunk of land, one helping hand
    One part of the solution
    Sing allelujah from our hearts
Cause this hope never breaks us apart

    What’s there to understand?
It’s time to join together with our brothers and sisters
    Sing allelujah from our hearts
Cause this hope never breaks us apart

    Cool mountain breeze accented pine
A lone caribou in the clear
    Nights alive with fireflies
A rope swings off a pier
    Dancing to an eastern fiddler
    A western step or two

    Miles of playful flowing wheat
    Yellow maple in the dew

    Hockey rinks at sunrise
    Overtime for the gold
    Mounties take a musical ride
    Elk Jam up the road

A mist rising from the falls
    Northern lights adored
Dundas square a city alive to

    Nahanni un-explored
    A history built on honour
    Totems whisper of the past
In flanders fields we held our hearts
    Vimy ridge our victory cast
Eastern lighthouse guides a son home

    Le carnival in winter play
A returning hero hugs her children
North and free is where I stay
Don’t you dare try take that away

In all the world there could never be
A place that speaks so dearly to me

Where freedom lives without a thought
Where goals and dreams are freely sought

Where pride whispers quietly, no arrogance here
And acceptance is a value held so very dear

Where creativity abounds, of the homegrown kind
And humble thanks is what you’ll find

Where “please and thank you” are the norm
And there's always a port, in any storm

Where neighbours are there to lend a hand
And diversity is in vogue across the land

Where it’s cool to be different, just be who you are
And each and every person is considered on a par

Where we unite to cheer in the good times we share
And also unite in the dark hours, with care

Where the red Maple Leaf has now come to be
A sign of peace, of hope, of democracy

We can poke fun of ourselves, and comedy is king
That’s how we roll, that’s how we swing

Where respect is expected, and delivered each day
And it’s given back freely, because that’s our way

In all the world there could never be
A place that speaks so dearly to me

Canada, oh Canada, wherever I may roam
You’ll always be within my heart, my safe haven - my home.

From the busker who plays his heart out,
On the corner of a street
To the child with a dream,
Who stays afterhours, at the rink

From the native who dances to the drumbeat,
    In a traditional-feather headdress
To a painter capturing the magic,
    Of the aurora borealis

From the dear old lady in the market,
    Selling homemade apple pie
To the farmer who works hard,
To keep the family name alive

From the fisherman in the Maritimes,
Who brings food back to the land
To the athlete who dreams of standing on the podium,
With the gold in his hand

No matter who you are, What you do, Or where you’re from, Everyone is someone

    From the man gathering syrup,
    On a ripened maple tree
To the throat singer in Nunavut,
Who shares a part of history

From the entrepreneur who takes a risk,
In spite of all the odds
To those who put themselves aside,
    To stand for a cause

From the trucker on the highway,
Hauling goods from sea to sea
To all the soldiers who gave their lives,
    To keep this country free

From a child who stands up,
    Against racism and violence
To the old, retired veteran who pauses…
    For a moment of silence

No matter who you are, What you do, Or where you’re from, Everyone is someone
    Embrace your differences,
Because you were made the way you are
Diversity, That’s what makes this country,
    A work of art
