Fun fact: Bryan Adams attended the same high school as Michael J. Fox in Vancouver and has been nominated for 13 Grammys. He also was awarded the C.M (Member of the Order of Canada) on April 20, 1998 and the C.O (Officer of the Order of Canada) on May 6, 1998 for his services to music.
Born to English parents, Bryan Guy Adams was born on November 5, 1959 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Growing up with a diplomat as a father, Adams spent his younger years travelling around the world with his parents. Adams' family returned to Canada and settled down in North Vancouver, British Columbia in 1973. It was during his teenage years that Adams' musical goals began to flourish. "In high school, I was far too into my music to even pay attention to girls", recalls Adams. Dedicated to achieve his musical hopes, Adams washed dishes, sold pet food, and worked in record stores, and at the age of 15, Adams decided to quit school and play in nightclubs with bands like Stock and Sweeny Todd (who released an album called "If Wishes Were Horses" with the fifteen year old Adams as lead singer).
A notable achievement for any fifteen year old, however, it was the beginnings of a friendship with drummer JimWallance in 1977, an unstoppable and enduring song writing partnership, which sealed the future success of Bryan Adams as a Rock Star. Or could it have been his work with Live-aid and Amnesty International's "Conspiracy of Hope" tour? Or perhaps his stardom could be chalked up to Adams' original show-stopping blend of edgy rock and chart topping melodic pop hits, which sealed his fate of super-stardom. Needless to say, whatever the cause, ever since bursting onto the charts in 1980, few singers have remained as hip and happening on the global music scene as Bryan Adams.
His instantly recognizable sound - an infectious blend of do-or-die rock 'n' roll and perfect pop melodies - has propelled the Kingston, Ontario-born singer to produce 10 albums, two dozen hit singles and record sales of over 50 million copies world-wide.
Bryan Adams turns 50 today.
