Canada’s Walk of Fame Set to Reveal 2009 Inductees June 16th

(Toronto) May 4, 2009 – With thousands of nominations from all over the world, Canada’s Walk of Fame announced today that the final, confirmed list of this year’s inductees will be unveiled on Tuesday June 16th, 2009.  This year’s list of recipients— representing the fields of music, sport, film and television as well as the literary, visual and performing arts, and science and innovation —will be introduced at a special press conference to be held at Toronto’s Windsor Arms Hotel (18 St Thomas) at 12:00 PM.

According to Peter Soumalias, Founder, CEO and President of Canada’s Walk of Fame, it didn’t take long for a few Canadian luminaries to take an early lead in nominations.  “Within days of inviting the public to send us the names of Canadians they’d like to see honoured, we were overwhelmed with submissions,” said Soumalias.  “We’re really impressed with the depth and breadth of the nominations this year and are currently working on paring this massive list down to the final inductees.”

The announcement will be hosted by Carla Collins and will feature a live performance by a new Canadian artist.

The tribute ceremony, known as The Canada Honours, will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Toronto’s Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts to be broadcast nationally.  The Canada Honours are presented by VW, RBC, NBC Universal, Cineplex Entertainment, and Allstream.

With the induction of the 2009 recipients, the number of Canadians who have received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame will rise to 122.
